Self Propelled Barges in India

Self propelled barges are mainly used for short distance navigation for coastal operations as well as for river navigation. The Self Propelled barges business in India is booming up with the increasing industrialization of the coastal states as well more and more industries are opting coastal water transportation for their cargo in India.

Self propelled barges are barges which are having their own engines and are capable of completing short voyages in the coastal sea. They are very economical and are mainly used for coastal movements only. Now a day’s most of the industries and traders hiring  the services of the self propelled barges if their cargo has to be shifted in location where the ports or channels are available where the barges can easily be mobilized with cargo.

The government is also motivating to use the sea transport in coastal regions of India to save time and money.

The self propelled barges in India are mainly used for anchorage loading and unloading of bulk cargo, at river navigation or open sea, coastal movement of heavy project cargoes like frames, chamber etc and also used to move bulk cargo from port to port.

Self propelled barges are convenient in transporting and they are mainly gearless, means without cranes for loading or unloading. They are available in carrying capacities of 500MT to 3500MT. Self propelled barges of more carrying capacity is also available. Maximum of the self propelled barges are engaged in carrying minerals and ores, project cargoes (heavy industrial equipments etc) and construction material.

Other than general cargo carrying barges, there are tanker barges also which are engages in loading and unloading oil from ships to the port and vice versa.

The tanker vessels are fitted with special equipments which are able to handle and carry the oil along with load and unloading facilities.

Also if possible let me know about the availability of flat top barges and shore cranes
